2/3/2024 0 Comments Paradigm shift werewolf![]() Tiede assimilates manga visuals - complex layouts, cartoony characters, even stylized hair-dos -with as much grace as any westerner I’ve seen. His craftsmanship is very impressive - the Chicago architecture is painstakingly rendered, and he even uses actual Mandarin calligraphy for some of the dialogue. The book’s action is brisk and engaging, especially in the fight-scene set pieces. And while the plot is predictable enough that even the werewolf surprise isn’t especially surprising, that’s hardly a cardinal sin in this sort of endeavor. Tiede’s characters are so determinedly likeable that they tip right over into bland -not to mention unbelievable (I mean, these are supposed to be *Chicago* cops, y’know?) Similarly, though the story has a fair amount of blood (including some very nicely-rendered mauling victims) it lacks the moral ambiguity, the sex, and even the seediness one usually expects from police procedurals. Tiede all but apologizes in his notes for a mildly revealing shower scene. I’d also be forever grateful if you’re able to support me via: /geekmid or PayPal – all of my work is provided for free and I earn no income from the blog, so any donations are gratefully received and assist me in keeping my writing dream alive. It’s kind of nice to see a creator deliberately eschew exploitation. If you’ve enjoyed reading this – or any of my other content – it’d be much appreciated if you’re able to share this article via social media. The artwork and photos used in this article are from the Kickstarter campaign page. It’s well on the way to the stretch goal that’ll see an entirely new Paradigm Shift volume coming our way a lot faster than it otherwise would – and I, for one, am very excited to see that come to fruition. ![]() If you have even the slightest interest in Manga, comic books, werewolves or police buddy thrillers, go check out the Kickstarter campaign and lend your support. At just over 300% of the original funding goal, it’s very clear that there’s a lot of people as keen as myself to check out Paradigm Shift and perhaps get their hands on some incredible, very limited artwork in the process. I’m incredibly pleased to see how successful the campaign has been so far too. Imagine my surprise when I Googled Paradigm Shift to see if I could find any information on the series continuing – and discovered that there’s not only been more added to the story since I last checked it out, but there’s also a Kickstarter running for some wonderful editions of the entire series so far – right now! It was an intriguing, fun and action packed story one that adds werewolves to a cop thriller. The best of the bunch, however, was a very Manga-influenced comic called Paradigm Shift, by Dirk I. In any case, I was sent a couple of indie comics to review by some very talented creators – I took a look at some very interesting stuff in the short space of time that I wrote the column for. It was very short lived, mostly because a few life issues got in the way, but also because of that aforementioned lack of confidence in my abilities. ![]() Way back in the dark days of 2007, when my own blog/website was not something I could ever imagine having (not least because I wasn’t confident enough in my writing to go for it), I briefly wrote an indie comic book review column for a now defunct website.
